Simone Ciofi Baffoni has been dedicated to the application of NMR in structural biology since his PhD studies. His scientific research has been focused on the characterization of cellular processes involving metal transport and regulation within the cell, with particular attention to copper and zinc metal ions. Within this framework, he acquired an extensive experience in the characterization of weak, transient protein-protein interactions exploiting NMR spectroscopy. He is now characterizing, through an integrated approach, cellular processes involving the folding and maturation of mitochondrial proteins imported from the cytosol to the intermembrane space of mitochondria. He is co-author of 49 papers published in international scientific journals (h-index = 23) and has solved over 40 structures of proteins.
